For short-term films, filmmakers \u00a0often use the services of payroll companies who provide workers \u00a0compensation insurance along with payroll services.<\/p>\n<p><u>AUTO INSURANCE<\/u>: This is commercial automobile coverage, also known as \u201cnon-owned and \u00a0hired auto\u201d (\u201cNOHA\u201d) coverage, and it\u2019s different than personal auto \u00a0coverage one has for their own car. A person\u2019s personal automobile \u00a0insurance can have limitations (aka exclusions) on the use of cars for \u00a0business purposes, so do terms and conditions on car rental company \u00a0contracts. Property owners requiring you to get them a certificate of insurance often require they be named as an \u201cadditional insured\u201d on the certificate.<\/p>\n<p>What does \u201closs payee\u201d mean?<\/p>\n<p>If an equipment rental house is a \u201closs payee\u201d under a policy, then they\u2019re paid directly by the insurance carrier for damage to their equipment if a claim occurs. This is used on equipment floater\/property policies.<\/p>\n<p>Pro Tip: If someone requires that they be named a loss payee on a policy, then it\u2019s critical that the insurance company be informed of this before the policy is bound. Most insurance policies do not automatically have loss payee provisions in them.
